Unlike group tours that herd you through the highlights, a private Imperial Cities circuit means you can spend three hours in a single Fassi alleyway following the sound of a lute, or arrive at the Bou Inania Medersa at dawn when it belongs only to you.
Arrive and settle into your riad in the Medina. Full-day private exploration: Jemaa el-Fna at dawn, Ben Youssef Medersa, the souks by neighbourhood, Majorelle Garden, and an evening at a rooftop above the square as the storytellers begin.
Drive north through the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas and the Berber mountain town of Azrou — where Barbary macaques roam free among the cedars. Arrive Fez by evening for dinner in a traditional riad.
Two full days are barely enough for Fez el-Bali, the world's largest car-free urban area. Visit Al-Qarawiyyin mosque (founded 859 AD — the world's oldest university), the Chouara tanneries, Bou Inania Medersa, the Attarine spice souk, and the Mellah (Jewish Quarter).
Drive an hour to the Imperial City of Meknes. Walk through Bab Mansour (one of Africa's finest gates), the royal stables of Moulay Ismail, and the vast Heri es-Swani granaries. Afternoon visit to the Roman ruins of Volubilis — Morocco's finest archaeological site.
Morocco's elegant capital. Visit the 12th-century Hassan Tower and Muhammad V Mausoleum, stroll the Kasbah des Oudayas above the Atlantic, explore Chellah (the ancient Phoenician port and later Merinid necropolis), and the striking Medina. Transfer to airport or Casablanca.
